The Largest Slot Jackpot Ever Won
- June 17, 2026
Slot machines have produced some astonishing jackpots over the years, but no win has ever surpassed the record-setting Megabucks jackpot won in Las Vegas in 2003. The prize totaled an incredible $39,713,982.25, making it the largest verified slot machine jackpot ever awarded.
The lucky winner was a 25-year-old software engineer from Los Angeles who was visiting Las Vegas to spend time with family and watch the NCAA basketball tournament. While playing a Megabucks progressive slot machine at the famous Excalibur Hotel-Casino, he reportedly inserted approximately $100 before hitting the life-changing jackpot. According to reports, he briefly looked away from the machine and then turned back to discover the winning symbols lined up on the reels.
Megabucks is a statewide progressive slot network created by International Game Technology (IGT). The system links slot machines located in casinos throughout Nevada, allowing a small percentage of each wager to contribute to a shared jackpot. Because thousands of players are contributing simultaneously, the jackpot can grow to enormous amounts before finally being won.
The previous record had been approximately $34.9 million, also won on a Megabucks machine. More than two decades later, the $39.7 million Excalibur jackpot remains the largest land-based slot machine payout ever recorded and is recognized by Guinness World Records.
While stories like this capture the imagination of gamblers everywhere, it is important to remember that such jackpots are extraordinarily rare and the odds of winning are extremely long.
